[edit] Before Beginning
Please make sure that you have added all the relevant Repositories before proceeding The instructions below presuppose that you already have them enabled appropriately.
Below you will get told to install particular packages to get a specific capability. In SUSE Linux 10.1 you can install packages from Smart.
[edit] MP3
If you are using the KDE Desktop Environment If you're using KDE (you selected the KDE desktop environment on install), you can quite easily get MP3 playback in the excellent Amarok by installing libxine1 (which is available from Packman). You might also consider getting a full-featured version of Amarok by upgrading your amarok and amarok-xine packages (from Package Sources/Packman); see Amarok for more information. MP3 Playback is also available through Kaffeine (though it's primarily a Video Player), presuming you have installed libxine1.
If you are using the GNOME Desktop Environment: MP3 playback is available by Banshee, presuming you have the banshee-engine-helix package installed (check with rpm -q banshee-engine-helix on the Console) which is available on the AddOn CD, the DVD, or the online non-oss-inst-source repository.
[edit] Windows Codecs
There is a handy package named w32codec-all (from Packman) which you should install, and it provides all the necessary windows codecs.
[edit] Encrypted DVD Playback
You will want to grab the RPM of libDVDcss, as well as install libxine (which is available from Packman). Here's a quick link to libdvdcss2:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.9/rpm/libdvdcss2-1.2.9-1.i386.rpm
Once you've downloaded it you will want to install it. Click on the file, and then select Install with YaST. Alternatively, you can Right-click the file -> Open with -> Install Software. Presuming you also installed libxine1, you should now be able to play Encrypted DVDs.
